The site type matters

Site 145 was a Signature site.

We booked a Signature site for this trip, and those extra comforts shaped the weekend. We could cook, sit by the fire, or enjoy the hot tub right at our campsite.

The resort's official Signature-site description places this category beside the catch-and-release pond and lists a private hot tub, wood-burning fireplace, outdoor smart TV, stainless gas grill, and outdoor seating. It also lists full hookups with 50/30-amp service, internet, and cable.

The Premiere RV sites are a separate category. When comparing prices, check the site type and its included amenities. Our review and booking total describe our Signature stay; they don't represent every campsite at The Ridge.

Getting settled

Setup was about as easy as it gets.

We pulled into site 145, checked the level, and didn't need blocks under the tires. That was a good start. The pad gave us room for the camper, slide, and truck, with space to walk behind the camper once we were parked.

We checked in at noon for our stay, and the staff welcomed the dogs with treats. Between that welcome and an uncomplicated setup, we could get on with enjoying the weekend.

Check your arrival time: The Signature-site page currently lists 3 p.m. check-in and 11 a.m. checkout. Our noon arrival was specific to this stay; confirm the time on your reservation.

Right outside the camper

The patio made the stay.

A few steps down from the campsite, the patio gave us room to cook and settle in for the evening. Having the grill, outdoor TV, and fireplace together made it a space we wanted to use.

The grill lit easily and cooked quickly. We brought our own cooking utensils, and a grill brush was provided during our stay. Later, once the fire was going, it was a lovely place to sit out after dark.

Having a private two-person hot tub at our site was another treat. It was clean, the jets worked well, and the landscaping gave us some screening. We enjoyed it in the evening, too. For this celebration weekend, it was one of the extras we were glad we'd booked.

Happy and Dolly came along

A place for the dogs to settle in, too.

Dolly found her spot on the patio, and the nearby fenced dog run gave both dogs a chance to stretch their legs and explore. From our site, getting them over there was a manageable walk.

We appreciated the separate sections, seating, and waste stations. We didn't see drinking water at the run we used, so we'd bring water and a bowl again.

What we'd tell a friend

A few things to know before you book.

• Check your towing route. Our GPS sent us down Ridge Road, where we encountered low branches. We'd confirm the recommended RV approach with the resort before heading in. Inside the campground, the roads felt roomy.
• Expect an open, landscaped resort. We enjoyed the pondside setting, but this was more sunshine than wooded seclusion. Think about how much shade matters to your camping style.
• Have a backup if you need to work. Connectivity was inconsistent during our visit. We wouldn't plan a workday around it without checking our options.
• Consider the distances from your site. The dog run was convenient for us; the office was farther away. A golf cart could be useful depending on where you stay and how much you want to get around.

We also enjoyed the lazy river during this visit. Most of the photos and video here focus on the campsite and the places we spent time, rather than trying to cover every resort amenity.
