Our outdoor trash can does not need to be impressive. It needs to hold a bag, work beside the camper, and get out of the way when we are done.
The container we use
Ours is the Camco “Life Is Better at the Campsite” RV-pattern pop-up utility container, model 42989. We use it as an outdoor trash can with ordinary trash bags.
It works well for us. It is short and squat rather than tall and top-heavy, and it has not seemed unusually prone to tipping in normal use.
Empty is when the wind wins
An empty container can tip more easily or move around in the wind. During those times we move it under the camper, beneath the steps. That is a way to shelter the empty container, not a way to protect food waste from animals.
Morning pickup is part of our routine
At campgrounds with morning pickup, we pull out the bag for collection in the morning rather than leaving it outside overnight. We have sometimes used our covered truck bed for overnight storage, but that personal practice should not be read as wildlife-safety guidance.
Would we buy the same one again?
Yes. It works for our outdoor setup and takes the bags we normally use. We would buy it again knowing its limitation: an empty, lightweight container may need shelter from the wind, and handling the trash safely is a separate responsibility.
